Baghdad: The Ministry of Water Resources announced today that the recent rains have significantly increased water storage and revitalized the southern marshes.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated that the rains that fell on the country in recent days have been stored in storage control systems. This has led to a substantial rise in water storage by 200 million cubic meters, which has been distributed equally among dams, reservoirs, and the Tharthar Lake reservoir.

The statement further explained that the rains have provided full irrigation for all agricultural lands, crops, and orchards. Additionally, water storage in marshland areas, including Al-Jabaish, the central marshes, and the Abu Khasaf area in Al-Huwaizeh Marsh, has shown clear signs of recovery. This effort is part of ongoing initiatives to enhance water resources management and ensure sustainability, particularly in light of the climatic challenges facing the country.

The Ministry emphasized its commitment to controlling water releases from dams and reservoirs to the minimum level required to secure water projects and maintain environmental flow in the river during the rainy period. This strategy aims to strengthen water reserves and secure water supplies for various uses, including agriculture, industry, and domestic consumption.

The Ministry also highlighted the importance of continuing to develop water infrastructure and increasing its efficiency to address any potential shortages in the future.
