White Coat Ceremony

On February 16, 2023 the School of Medicine (SOM) at the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) organised the second White Coat Ceremony for medical students of the class of 2028.

The White Ceremony is a ritual many medicine schools around the world and was first held in 1990s. UKH-SOM is the first medical school to practice this ceremony in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

The event was attended by 95 freshmen in SOM, their families, UKH faculty members and staff. The ceremony was opened by UKH President Professor Keith Sharp who welcomed the guests, congratulated the students and declared the building of a new library in SOM.

Dr. Teshk Shawis, Dean of SOM also delivered a short speech and pledged to continue developing and strengthening school in all ways possible.

UKH President, Vice President Professor Dr. Dana Mawlood and Dr. Teshk Shawis helped the students wearing their white coats in a symbolic ceremony, marking the beginning of the journey for the class of 2028 in the field of medicine.

The students also took the medical oath before enjoying live music performed by UKH Music Group.
