World Earth Day: Human Rights Commission Urges Action Against Deforestation

Baghdad: The Human Rights Commission has highlighted World Earth Day as a crucial moment to remind humanity of its responsibilities in maintaining a healthy environment and a stable world. The day serves as an opportunity to evaluate our interactions with nature to ensure that the planet remains a viable habitat.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission issued a press statement on Tuesday emphasizing the urgent need to address environmental and climate challenges. The statement called for increased environmental awareness, education on the significance of environmental safety, and collaboration among authorities and organizations to foster sustainability for the benefit of future generations.

The Commission underscored the necessity of immediate measures to curtail greenhouse gas emissions and the adoption of sustainable practices. It urged for comprehensive plans to combat deforestation and prevent agricultural land from being converted into urban developments. Furthermore, it advocated for the creation of laws aimed at environmental protection to ensure a safe living environment.

The Commission also appealed to the international community to support nations afflicted by drought, desertification, and water scarcity, in line with existing environmental protection agreements.
