Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, discussed bilateral cooperation and the Taiwan issue on Monday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the two presidents held a telephone conversation, with Xi emphasizing the importance of maintaining the momentum of relations following their meeting last month in South Korea. Xi reiterated China’s firm stance on Taiwan, describing its return to China as a crucial element of the post-World War II international order.

Xi highlighted that the successful South Korea meeting provided direction and momentum for the progression of China-US relations, which he likened to a great ship. He remarked that the relationship between the two countries has remained stable and shown improvement since the meeting, garnering positive reception from both sides and the global community.

US President Donald Trump expressed his appreciation for the strong relationship between the United States and China following their call. Trump announced plans to visit China in April, with Xi set to visit Washington in 2026. The two leaders had previously met in October, marking their first encounter since 2019 amid ongoing trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
