Baqubah: A young man drowned in an irrigation river southwest of Baqubah, the capital of Diyala Governorate. A police source told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) correspondent that the individual, hailing from Baghdad, lost his life while swimming in an irrigation river near the Bani Saad district.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, there has been a noticeable rise in drowning incidents in the rivers and streams of Diyala. This increase is occurring despite repeated warnings from relevant authorities advising the public to avoid deep waterways.

Since the beginning of the year, Diyala Governorate has witnessed approximately 70 drowning cases, marking the highest number in comparison to previous years.
