Baghdad: In a significant move to combat illiteracy within government institutions, the Minister of Education and Head of the Higher Authority for Literacy, Abdul Karim Abtan al-Jubouri, has announced the enrollment of approximately 11,000 members of the Ministry of Interior in literacy programs. This initiative marks a collaborative effort between the Ministries of Education and Interior to enhance the educational level of personnel within the Ministry of Interior.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the inaugural conference organized by the Executive Authority for Literacy in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, Minister al-Jubouri emphasized the institutional partnership’s objective to scientifically empower personnel. The program facilitates the establishment of literacy centers within the Ministry of Interior’s premises and conducts assessments to gauge participants’ educational levels. The Ministry of Education is tasked with supplying the necessary curricula, teaching and administrative staff, and educational oversight, ensuring that no additional financial strain is placed on the state.

Minister al-Jubouri reiterated the Ministry of Education’s commitment to broadening these literacy initiatives to include other government ministries and agencies. He expressed optimism that the Ministry of Interior would lead by example, potentially becoming the first government body to eradicate illiteracy, thereby setting a precedent for other state institutions.

Acting Interior Minister Dr. Hussein Al-Awadi highlighted the Ministry of Interior’s dedication to the program’s success by offering precise enrolment statistics, establishing educational centers, and ensuring the security and support of educational personnel. He praised the collaboration with the Ministry of Education as a prime example of state institutions working in harmony to implement national initiatives.

The conference witnessed the presence of several key figures, including Acting Interior Minister Dr. Hussein Al-Awadi, Technical Undersecretary Hussein Sabri Al-Lami, Administrative Undersecretary Mohammed Dhaya Al-Azzawi, Head of the Executive Authority for Literacy Dr. Muzahim Jassim Al-Samarrai, Director of the Minister’s Office Hafiz Hamid Al-Halbousi, along with various educational and security leaders.
