Baghdad: The Ministry of Electricity announced on Saturday the commissioning of 13 mobile substations in the holy city of Karbala. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the initiative was executed under the direct guidance of Minister of Electricity Ali Saadi Wahib, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the electrical infrastructure in preparation for the Arba’een pilgrimage.

The Ministry’s media office revealed in a press release that the commissioning was completed by the Karbala Electricity Distribution Branch, under the supervision of Engineer Haider Majeed Abdul Karim, Director General of the Middle Euphrates Electricity Distribution Company. This task was accomplished through in-house efforts and in record time, as part of a proactive strategy to enhance grid readiness and accommodate the anticipated surge in electricity demand during the pilgrimage season.

The newly commissioned substations, each with a capacity of 33 kV, are expected to alleviate pressure on existing substations and 11 kV feeders. This enhancement increases the grid’s efficiency and capacity to manage increased loads, thereby improving electricity supply across the three areas experiencing high volumes of pilgrim traffic.

The General Company for Electricity Distribution in the Middle Euphrates highlighted that this achievement reflects the continued intensive field efforts of its staff. The implementation of technical and service plans aims to provide optimal electricity services, aligning with the demands of the Arba’een pilgrimage and supporting the millions of visitors arriving in the holy city of Karbala.
