Baghdad: The Guyanese government announced the recovery of 27 bodies from a ferry that capsized off the country’s coast earlier this week. Eighty-three people remain missing out of the 179 passengers on board, while 69 others were rescued.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the ferry, named “Parima,” was en route from the capital, Georgetown, to the village of Port Keitoma in the northwest of the South American country when it capsized late Saturday. The incident prompted a large-scale search and rescue operation.

Guyanese Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Diodat Endar, stated that the ferry was discovered on the seabed by noon on Monday during the ongoing search efforts. The government continues to coordinate with rescue teams to locate the missing passengers and determine the cause of the capsizing.
