Baghdad: The Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency, represented by the Anti-Human Trafficking Directorate, has arrested 48 individuals accused of human trafficking in Baghdad and other governorates over a span of two weeks.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, these arrests targeted male and female sorcerers and witches who were allegedly exploiting victims using fraudulent means, masquerading their activities under the pretense of providing spiritual healing or resolving familial issues.

The Agency revealed that this operation was conducted with direct support from the Supreme Judicial Council, highlighting the critical need to address these alarming activities that are closely linked to human trafficking crimes. These practices are seen as a direct threat to societal peace and violate both moral and legal principles.

Initial investigations have disclosed that the accused were involved in various forms of exploitation, including extortion and deception, focusing particularly on women and children. Such activities represent a significant violation of human rights and personal dignity. The campaign is part of a broader national strategy to combat human trafficking, involving close collaboration with judicial authorities to ensure swift legal action against the perpetrators.

The Agency has urged citizens to participate actively by reporting any suspicious activities through the designated hotline, stressing that maintaining community security is a collective responsibility. It emphasized the importance of national efforts to combat all forms of exploitation and fraud that undermine human dignity and fundamental rights.
