Iraqi Oil Minister Highlights BP Partnership as Sign of Stable Investment Climate

Kirkuk:Iraq’s Oil Minister, Bassem Mohammed Khudair, announced that the country’s collaboration with British energy company BP on developing the Kirkuk oil fields demonstrates a secure and appealing environment for international investors. He emphasized that this partnership sends a strong message about Iraq’s investment prospects.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the minister described BP as a strategic partner in oil and gas development and highlighted the positive impact of collaborative efforts on project implementation. He assured that the Ministry of Oil would provide BP with the necessary support to achieve the project’s objectives, with the North Oil Company and the North Gas Company playing key roles.

Khudair explained that the project is an integrated initiative for oil and gas development, including personnel training, expertise and technology transfer, and community service initiatives to build essential local facilities. The operations for the four Kirkuk oil fields—Kirkuk, Bai Hassan, Khabbaz, and Jambur—have transitioned to the Joint Operations Authority.

The minister further noted the project’s goal of increasing oil production to 450,000 barrels per day and enhancing the capacity to utilize 500 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. Achieving these targets is crucial for bolstering Iraq’s national economy, he stressed, requiring continuous efforts and dedication.
