6-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesia’s Java Island

Jakarta: An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale struck Java, Indonesia, on Thursday. The tremor was felt across the island, prompting concerns among residents and officials.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. This seismic event has reignited discussions about the region’s vulnerability to earthquakes, given its position on the Pacific Ring of Fire.

On January 25, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake had previously struck the Maluku Tenggara region of Indonesia. This recent tremor adds to the series of seismic activities that have affected the country in recent months.
