AL-MANDLAWI: Iraq is actively engaging in significant parliamentary and governmental diplomatic initiatives to prevent the potential outbreak of a large-scale war affecting both the region and the global community. Acting Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, emphasized these efforts during his address at the 149th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mandalawi highlighted the severe implications of escalating conflicts in the Middle East, specifically warning against the transformation of regional conflicts into a global war. He stressed the urgent need for an international parliamentary delegation to visit Lebanon and Palestine to assess the situation and report on Zionist terrorist attacks against civilians. Al-Mandalawi condemned the recent assaults on UN peacekeeping forces and criticized the Zionist entity for operating outside legal and humanitarian norms. During his speech, Al-Mandalawi urged the international parli amentary community to adopt a decisive stance to prevent further escalation into war. He called on the union's presidency and representatives from participating parliaments to denounce the Zionist practices, which he claimed violate international charters and decisions. Furthermore, Al-Mandalawi advocated for the Security Council to intervene decisively, hold responsible parties accountable, and ensure humanitarian aid and protection for civilians in affected regions. Al-Mandalawi also proposed the signing of an international agreement to criminalize the use of artificial intelligence technology in warfare, citing its potentially catastrophic consequences. He emphasized the importance of enhancing parliamentary performance and cooperation among member states to uphold international humanitarian law and ensure the security and stability of all peoples. Highlighting the aggressive tactics of the Zionist entity, Al-Mandalawi noted that this entity's actions threaten to drag not only the Middle East but also th e global community into a comprehensive and bloody conflict. He pointed out that Iraq, along with Yemen, Syria, and Iran, remains a primary target, and he mentioned the targeting of religious authority Sayyid Ali al-Sistani as further proof of the entity's disregard for human and international values.
