Hillah: Security forces in Hillah intervened today to disperse a group of demonstrators, primarily composed of recent graduates who were protesting for better employment opportunities and more contract positions in the region. The demonstration led to significant disruptions, including the closure of Al-Thawra Bridge to vehicle traffic.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the protestors were demanding the cancellation of an exception policy that affected over a thousand job positions out of seven thousand announced by the Babylon government. The police action came as a response to the closure of a key bridge in the city, which had halted the flow of traffic and affected daily commutes. The security forces successfully reopened the bridge and restored vehicular movement, ensuring the resumption of normal traffic flow.

The incident highlights ongoing employment challenges in the region, where graduates are struggling to find suitable job placements and contract opportunities. The government’s approach to
employment contracts and the allocation of job grades remain contentious issues among the youth and recent graduates in Babylon.
