BAGHDAD: Iyad Allawi, the Head of the National Coalition, has voiced his concern over escalating tensions in Nasiriyah, highlighting the importance of constitutional rights and urging the Prime Minister to facilitate a peaceful resolution. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Allawi issued a statement addressing the deteriorating situation in Dhi Qar Governorate. He condemned the arrests and suppression of demonstrators, describing such actions as blatant violations of human rights principles. Allawi emphasized that the right to peaceful protest is enshrined in the Iraqi constitution and must be safeguarded from any form of aggression. In his statement, Allawi warned that repressive measures against demonstrators would only deepen crises and heighten social tensions, posing a threat to the nation's stability and security. He underscored the sensitive nature of the current regional circumstances, which amplify the potential dangers of unresolved domestic conflicts. Allawi expressed hope in the leadershi p of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to address the unrest through dialogue and possible amnesty. He called for adherence to constitutional provisions to ensure the freedom of peaceful demonstrations.
