President Rashid Urges Swift Election of Speaker for Iraqi House of Representatives


BAGHDAD: President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid emphasized the urgency of electing a Speaker for the Iraqi Council of Representatives, highlighting the necessity for expedited national dialogues to resolve the ongoing legislative impasse.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, President Rashid met with Sheikh Jamal Al-Dhari, Secretary-General of the Iraqi National Project, MP Khaled Al-Obeidi, and former MP Fares Al-Fares at the Baghdad Palace. The meeting focused on both domestic conditions and regional developments, underscoring the importance of completing the constitutional process of selecting a Speaker for the House of Representatives.

President Rashid stressed that accelerating discussions and understandings among national parties is critical to strengthening the legislative and oversight functions of the House of Representatives. Additionally, the meeting addressed the issue of detainees, with discussions on the Presidency’s efforts to release individuals whose sentences have concluded.
