Turkey Urges Israel to Cease Military Actions in Gaza and Lebanon

ANKARA: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has publicly condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza and Lebanon, stating that peace and security cannot be achieved by targeting civilians. Fidan called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in a press conference with Latvian Foreign Minister Pippa Braz, emphasizing Turkey’s commitment to ending what he described as genocidal crimes in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan’s remarks were made at the Turkish Foreign Ministry headquarters in Ankara, where he underscored Turkey’s efforts to halt the violence. He insisted that the international community must support the establishment of a Palestinian state to ensure lasting peace and security in the Middle East.

Fidan’s statements come in the wake of ongoing conflict, as Israel, with backing from the United States, has been conducting military operations in Gaza since October 7, 2023. The offensive has resulted in over 142,000 Palestinian casualties, the majority of whom are women and c
hildren, and has led to widespread destruction and famine. Despite a UN Security Council resolution and directives from the International Court of Justice to halt these actions and address the humanitarian crisis, Israel continues its operations in the region.
