BEIRUT: Israeli airstrikes targeted the southern Lebanese town of Ansar overnight, leading to the deaths of two civilians and injuring another, amidst reports of widespread destruction across multiple regions in southern Lebanon. The strikes have exacerbated tensions in the area, adding to the casualties and material damage reported.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, a house in Ansar’s southern district was completely destroyed following a direct hit, with civil defense teams from the Islamic Health Authority recovering one body while efforts to retrieve another continue. In the town of Kfar Jouz, airstrikes demolished three residential buildings and the Badreddine villa, resulting in an entire block being reduced to rubble. Additional strikes targeted a building in the al-Labaneh neighborhood along the Arab Salim-Jarjouaa road shortly after midnight, with initial reports indicating casualties.
The Tyre region also experienced significant activity, with Israeli jets launching raids between the to
wns of Yater and Kafra after conducting earlier strikes on the villages of Tayr Harfa and al-Jibbain. In Marjayoun, a house in the village of al-Shaytieh was bombed, though no injuries were reported. A drone strike was noted between Saksakiyeh and Sarafand, while further attacks targeted Yohmor al-Shaqif, following multiple raids overnight in Arnoun.
Israeli warplanes have been conducting intensive operations in al-Khiam, carrying out strafing campaigns in the direction of Kfarkila. The two towns are experiencing ongoing artillery shelling, with drones observed flying at low altitudes over al-Khiam, Marjeyoun, and Qlaiaa. In Baalbek, a late-night airstrike hit the village of Tariya, west of Baalbek, marking part of the continued escalation in the region.
