BAGHDAD: The Parliamentary Human Rights Committee in Iraq has advanced the Freedom of Expression Law to the agenda of the Parliament for voting, signaling a potential shift in legislative priorities. The decision was made during a meeting led by MP Arshad Al-Salihi, the committee's chairman, and attended by committee members, including MPs Nisan Al-Zayer, Zuhair Al-Fatlawi, and Fatima Al-Issawi. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting also addressed the committee's legislative agenda, which encompasses various proposals, including the Right to Information Law, the Prisoners' Reform Law, and the Protection of Diversity and Prevention of Discrimination Law. Additionally, the committee considered a draft law aimed at combating enforced disappearance and discussed the formation of support committees for these legislative initiatives. The committee emphasized the importance of organizing workshops and meetings to facilitate the legislative process. They also explored the establishment of the Supreme Council for Human Rights, which would be chaired by the committee and include representatives from relevant authorities. The session concluded with a vote to implement the Human Rights Committee's work plan, underscoring their commitment to advancing these legislative efforts.
