Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani emphasized the significance of the traffic congestion relief project in Baghdad, a city that had not witnessed the construction of a new bridge since 1996, despite its ongoing expansion. During a Cabinet session commemorating the second anniversary of the government’s formation, Al-Sudani highlighted the project’s role as one of the most prominent initiatives undertaken.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani announced that the government had achieved 62% of its targets across various fields during its tenure. He acknowledged successes in several important areas while also facing challenges and delays in others. Al-Sudani noted that the government had paused multiple times to assess the progress of its work, resulting in the issuance of three reports on the implementation of the government program.

The Prime Minister detailed the breadth of the government’s achievements, which were not confined to a single sector or region but extended to districts
and city centers. A dedicated team focused on completing rapid services and addressing stalled projects, some dating back to 2005, through Cabinet decisions. Al-Sudani reported that the number of stalled projects had decreased from 1471 to 916, with work resuming on numerous contracts and projects at both ministerial and governorate levels.

Al-Sudani also highlighted the resumption of infrastructure projects, including sewage treatment plants, drinking water provision, and road and bridge projects to accommodate millions of visitors. However, he acknowledged delays in services such as the water desalination project in Basra and improvements at Iraqi airports. Additionally, there were challenges in preparing and distributing 500,000 residential plots due to complex land issues impacting residential projects.

In healthcare, Al-Sudani announced the opening of new hospitals, specialized centers, and primary care facilities, alongside the rehabilitation of existing health centers. He also reported advancements i
n the energy sector, achieving the highest electrical energy production of 27,000 megawatts and initiating new projects, including solar energy initiatives with a total capacity of 5720 megawatts.

Al-Sudani mentioned progress in housing, with the announcement of important residential cities aiming to shift the allocation of housing units with comprehensive services. The Prime Minister also noted strides in school building projects, including the completion of the Iraqi-Chinese agreement projects and the rehabilitation of schools across all governorates.
