Baghdad: Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ahmed Al-Asadi confirmed that the government seeks to provide social justice for all segments of society and workers are one of these segments. He said during the official announcement of Iraq's accession to the International Alliance for Social Justice that Iraq is one of the first countries to join this alliance and it is also in line with the government program, noting that Iraq has approved many national strategic laws and legislation in the past years, including the law to prevent injustice, which was voted on by the Council of Ministers last year. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Asadi added that the government has set priorities in its program, most notably combating multidimensional poverty and has achieved great successes in implementing the program. The Ministry of Labor launched the largest social research campaign for families below the poverty line at the beginning of last year, and approximately two million families were researched, which is the largest social research in the Middle East. He pointed out that thousands of new families at risk of poverty were included in social assistance, with them being given double food supplies monthly, in addition to launching a scholarship for their children from school students, and including beneficiary families in health insurance. Al-Asadi explained that Iraq is about to conduct a population census in the next two weeks, and according to indicators, the poverty rate has decreased from 23% to about 17% as a result of what the government has implemented from its program towards vulnerable classes. He expressed Iraq's readiness to cooperate in all areas, including those related to social justice for all, whether for workers, employers, or women.
