BAGHDAD: Ammar al-Hakim, the head of the National State Forces Alliance, has issued a stark warning about the potential repercussions of ongoing chaos in Syria, emphasizing its threat to both regional and international peace.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Hakim expressed these concerns during a meeting with Akira Ando, the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Iraq. During the meeting, al-Hakim extended his well-wishes to Ando on his mission while underscoring the strong diplomatic ties between Baghdad and Tokyo. He advocated leveraging Japan’s extensive experience in construction, reconstruction, and technological advancements to enhance governmental transparency and combat corruption in Iraq. Al-Hakim highlighted the influence of Japanese industry on Iraqi culture and daily life.

Addressing the broader geopolitical landscape, al-Hakim pointed to the ongoing instability in Syria, urging the international community to take responsibility for fostering stability in the war-torn nation. He emphasized that the foundation for peace in Syria lies in empowering its citizens to govern themselves, draft their own constitution, and maintain their demographic diversity.

In addition to his remarks on Syria, al-Hakim called for an end to the conflict in Gaza, stressing the importance of providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, rebuilding devastated areas, and facilitating the return of displaced individuals.
