BAGHDAD: In a significant crackdown on illegal drugs, a committee led by Judge Suhaib Daham has overseen the destruction of approximately four tons of narcotic substances throughout 2024.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Destruction Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Forensic Medicine Department, carried out the destruction of these substances. The narcotics, which had been seized and stored since the beginning of the year, were housed in the Forensic Medicine Department across Baghdad, Najaf, and Basra governorates.
The operation also saw the destruction of more than three million narcotic pills, 654 bottles of codeine, 985 ampoules of tramadol, and over 136 electronic hookahs containing hashish. Additionally, 2,305 other substances used for drug consumption were eradicated.
