Diyala: More than 5,000 people were killed or injured in a series of traffic accidents across Diyala last year, according to a report from the Diyala Health Department. The alarming statistics highlight a significant increase in accidents compared to previous years, raising concerns about road safety in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Faris Al-Azzawi, Director of Media for Diyala Health, reported that the province experienced approximately 300 civilian deaths and 5,000 injuries in over 6,000 traffic accidents during the past year. Al-Azzawi emphasized that accidents on external roads were particularly high, surpassing the figures from prior years.

Al-Azzawi also noted that motorcycle accidents were notably prevalent, contributing to hundreds of injuries, predominantly affecting young people. This trend underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and awareness campaigns targeting motorcyclists to reduce the risk of accidents and related casualties.
