Baghdad: Speaker of the House of Representatives Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani confirmed that Iraq enjoys stability and is on the verge of economic prosperity and has returned to its influential role in the region. In a televised interview with Al-Iraqiya channel, Al-Mashhadani highlighted several key legislative priorities for the country.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mashhadani stated that there are important laws requiring votes, most of which are non-controversial, including those concerning personal status and general amnesty. He noted that the draft amnesty law includes mechanisms that allow for the exit of only innocent individuals, with the process being conditional and subject to specific procedures. The personal status law awaits a code related to the Shiite community before proceeding to a vote, while the Sunni community faces no issues with advancing Law No. 188.

Al-Mashhadani also mentioned an agreement to amend the retirement law, proposing to change the retirement age to 63 years. He emphasized the significance of the Popular Mobilization Forces retirement law, stating that its return from the government is awaited, with current disputes being political and centered on retirement age.

He further explained that no legislation concerning the election law has yet reached parliament, with differing opinions on potential amendments. These include proposals to allocate 10 percent for independents, treating Iraq as a single district, or considering governorates with large populations as multiple districts. Al-Mashhadani remarked that discussions on the election law are premature and still under the presidency of the Republic.

He concluded by describing the approval of the general amnesty law as a means to fortify Iraq's internal stability.
