Al-Sudani: Investment Opportunities in Iraq Are the Most in the Region

London: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized that Iraq offers the most investment opportunities in the region, asserting its position as one of the most attractive destinations for investment over the past two years.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani made these remarks during a financial symposium in London, attended by major British financial companies alongside Iraqi private sector representatives. He highlighted the growing interest among international companies to expand their investments in Iraq and initiate new projects. Al-Sudani also stressed the importance of transferring experience and knowledge to Iraqi professionals to enhance their capabilities in global investment strategies.

The Prime Minister announced that the Iraq Investment Forum is scheduled for next April and encouraged potential investors to visit Iraq to explore the available opportunities firsthand. He underscored that reforming the financial and banking sectors was a priority for his administration. Steps have been taken to restructure government banks, with partnerships formed with Ernst and Young, and the Central Bank collaborating with Oliver Wyman. There is also ongoing cooperation with the US Treasury to ensure that all financial transfers are securely processed through correspondent banks.

Al-Sudani further mentioned that the government has provided sovereign guarantees to the private sector to minimize risks in productive projects. He introduced the Iraq Development Fund as a new initiative to support and empower the private sector. Moreover, Iraq’s investment law has been identified as the best in the region, allowing investors to freely transfer profits and capital. He emphasized the need for a robust Iraqi and foreign banking sector to support these operations and urged the insurance sector to innovate, expand digital offerings, and conduct risk analysis.
