Baghdad: Today’s newspapers highlighted the ongoing developments surrounding the amendment of the federal budget law for the next three years and the President’s recent visit to Anbar Governorate.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the focus in parliament today is on voting for amendments to the federal budget law, specifically Article 12, which addresses the financial obligations and oil extraction costs in the Kurdistan Region.

Al-Zawraa newspaper reported that MP Mohammed Al-Khafaji, a member of the Legal Committee, anticipates a weak chance for the budget amendment to pass in its current form during today’s parliament session. He noted the possibility of postponing the vote to allow further refinement of the law, as the parliamentary finance committee has yet to finalize its report on the amendment.

Parliamentarians have also raised concerns about the frequent absence of MPs, which disrupts the legal quorum needed to pass essential laws. MP Mahma Khalil emphasized the need for accountability among MPs who intentionally avoid sessions, while MP Jassim Al-Moussawi suggested that controversial laws should be postponed until they are fully matured.

The Parliamentary Finance Committee has made significant progress in discussing the proposed government amendment to the three-year budget law. The committee’s statement outlined the objectives of the amendment, including resolving issues related to oil production costs in the Kurdistan Region and strengthening the legal relationship between the federal and regional governments.

In a separate development, President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid’s visit to Anbar Governorate on Saturday was another focal point for today’s newspapers. During his visit, the President met with local officials and highlighted the importance of Iraq’s security stability as a foundation for economic and social development. Rashid praised the local government’s efforts in reconstruction and development and urged provincial representatives to address citizens’ concerns through legislation and oversight.

The President also emphasized the need to maintain security through collective efforts and called for respect for human rights standards. The Presidency of the Republic has been proactive in proposing important draft laws to the House of Representatives, aiming to address citizens’ needs and improve living conditions. Local officials expressed their appreciation for the President’s visit and his commitment to addressing the needs of Anbar’s citizens.
