Latakia: The Syrian Ministry of Interior has issued a statement regarding the recent seizure of hidden shipments of “Captagon” pills in warehouses owned by Maher al-Assad, brother of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, in the city of Latakia. The discovery was made by the Anti-Narcotics Department after thorough monitoring and follow-up operations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Interior’s media office stated that the Anti-Narcotics Department had gathered information suggesting the presence of Captagon shipments prepared for export through the Latakia port to various Arab and Western countries. The investigation led to the identification of the shipment locations in warehouses near the port, owned by Maher al-Assad, who is currently a fugitive.

The Ministry’s statement revealed that large quantities of Captagon pills and narcotic powder were discovered, hidden inside children’s toys. This method highlights the serious nature of the smuggling operations. It is estimated that around 100 million pills were prepared for export, posing a significant threat to public health and social security in numerous countries.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized its commitment to fighting drug trafficking and eliminating its sources. It also urged citizens to cooperate by reporting any information that might help in controlling such criminal activities. Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab News Agency “SANA” has released footage showing the warehouse containing the massive Captagon shipment intended for export via Latakia port.
