Baghdad: Minister of Trade Athir Dawood Al-Ghariri has called for the organization of a “Made in America” exhibition in Iraq and emphasized the participation of American companies in the sessions of the Baghdad International Fair. This development was part of discussions with the US Charg© d’Affaires in Baghdad, Ambassador Daniel Rubinstein, and Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce Steve Lutes, focusing on enhancing economic and trade relations between Iraq and the United States.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Trade released a statement highlighting the Minister’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with the United States. This goal aligns with the Iraqi government’s strategic economic reforms aimed at improving the business and investment climate. Al-Ghariri underscored ongoing efforts, in collaboration with governmental bodies, to resume negotiations for Iraq’s accession to the World Trade Organization, focusing on goods and services submissions and reviewing economic reforms, particularly in intellectual property legislation.

The Minister outlined Iraq’s intention to simplify procedures for American businesses operating in the country, aiming to bolster trade and investment relations. He highlighted Iraq’s achievement of self-sufficiency in local wheat production over the past two years and noted ongoing collaborations with the United States through memoranda of understanding addressing Iraq’s economic needs.

Al-Ghariri urged American companies to initiate a “Made in America” exhibition in Iraq and proposed a forum for Iraqi and American private sectors to explore investment opportunities and projects. He expressed a desire for American companies to actively participate in the Baghdad International Fair sessions.

Ambassador Rubinstein voiced enthusiasm for increased cooperation and openness between the two nations, acknowledging the economic reforms underway in Iraq. He also announced an upcoming visit by a delegation of American business leaders to Iraq in April.

Steve Lutes conveyed gratitude to the Ministry of Commerce for its support of American businesses and commended Iraq’s efforts to enhance the business environment and promote investments. The statement concluded with both parties agreeing to collaborate in expanding the business landscape and strengthening economic and trade relations to benefit both countries.
