Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a meeting today, Thursday, focusing on the development of sulfur and phosphate production. Attendees included Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Oil, Minister of Finance, Minister of Industry and Minerals, Governor of the Central Bank, alongside several advisors and general managers.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, discussions during the meeting centered on mechanisms to advance this initiative and enhance mineral wealth industries, which are critical to various industrial sectors. The Ministers of Oil and Industry and Minerals presented Iraq's sulfur and phosphate reserves, highlighting their potential.
The Prime Minister instructed efforts to be directed towards the optimal investment of these resources, which are crucial for the nation's economic security and have been underutilized for decades. He acknowledged the importance of the meeting in aligning visions to boost state revenues, stating that the government aims to diversify income sources and execute strategic projects to foster development across multiple sectors.
A committee was established during the meeting, led by the Prime Minister's Advisor for Energy Affairs. It will include technical undersecretaries from the Ministries of Oil and Industry and Minerals, the Legal Department of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and Directors General from the Ministries of Industry and Oil. This committee is tasked with delivering a report within a month, detailing a strategy for the optimal investment of sulfur associated with mining and phosphate.
