Ankara: The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the killing of 7 militants from the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in airstrikes carried out by Turkish warplanes in northern Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Defense Ministry stated that one of the Turkish army units stationed near the Qandil Mountains had detected gatherings of PKK militants in the rugged mountainous area. This prompted the use of warplanes to launch a series of airstrikes, resulting in the killing of four militants from the organization and the escape of others from those areas.

The statement further detailed that Turkish warplanes also targeted PKK hideouts in the Metina region, resulting in the death of three additional militants. The Turkish Defense Ministry highlighted that the PKK, which has its stronghold in the Qandil Mountains, is active in multiple cities, regions, and valleys, launching attacks on Turkey from there. The Ministry reiterated the Turkish army’s commitment to eliminating sources of terrorism.
