Baghdad: The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (I.M.O) expressed his admiration for the advanced level achieved in the ports of Iraq. He acknowledged the significant progress made in the maritime sector, which he believed was evident during his recent visit.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Secretary-General stated, “From the beginning, I was aware of Iraq towards strengthening the maritime transport sector, but what I saw today on the ground confirms that this shift has already been achieved, and the Iraqi maritime sector pays great attention in the fields of maritime safety and security and the protection of the environment.”
He further noted that the development in Iraqi ports is not just limited to infrastructure improvements but also includes efforts in building human capabilities. This aspect, he emphasized, is crucial for the global marine industry. He remarked, “Iraq today is able to provide the international maritime sector with the cadres and expertise it needs to enhance Maritime Safety and International Cooperation.”
