UN Secretary-General Calls for Just Peace That Respects Ukraine’s Sovereignty and Independence

New York: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed the urgent need to reach a just and comprehensive peace that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders under the UN Charter, international law, and General Assembly resolutions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Guterres stated that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, persisting 80 years after the end of World War II, poses a significant threat not only to the peace and security of Europe but also to the foundational principles of the United Nations.

He emphasized the severity of the situation, remarking, “After three years of death and destruction, I once again call for urgent de-escalation and an immediate end to hostilities resulting from the ongoing war since February 24, 2022.”

The Secretary-General also expressed his support for any efforts aimed at reaching a just and comprehensive peace and reiterated the United Nations’ readiness to assist in these endeavors.
