Geneva: Iraq renewed its call to respect the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state with Al-Quds as its capital. The statement was delivered by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral and Legal Affairs, Ambassador Shorsh Khaled Saeed, during the high-level session of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the statement emphasized Iraq’s rejection of any calls or attempts aimed at displacing the Palestinian people, particularly from the Gaza Strip. Ambassador Saeed highlighted Iraq’s belief that the principle of multilateralism and collective security is fundamental for addressing disarmament and non-proliferation concerns. He expressed Iraq’s aspiration for the Conference on Disarmament to regain its credibility by initiating its negotiating mandate.

The statement also outlined the significant role played by Iraq during its presidency of the conference last year. Iraq’s efforts in promoting dialogue and building confidence among member states were crucial in the adoption of resolutions 2390 and 2391, which facilitated the establishment of subsidiary bodies and the commencement of substantive discussions within the conference.

Iraq reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with international partners to enhance disarmament and non-proliferation efforts, contributing to the consolidation of international security and stability.
