Geneva: Iraq has reiterated its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the international community on issues related to human rights. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs, Shorsh Khalid Saeed, emphasized this commitment during meetings with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Trk.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, these discussions took place on the sidelines of the high-level session of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The meetings focused on supporting Iraq’s candidacy for membership in the Human Rights Council for the period 2026-2028. Saeed reviewed the efforts of the Iraqi government in promoting and protecting human rights, highlighting the implementation of international obligations and the strengthening of relevant national legislation.
Saeed’s engagements underscored Iraq’s dedication to enhancing its collaboration with the global community on human rights issues. The discussions also aimed to bolster Iraq’s position and contributions within the international human rights framework.
