National Security Launches Pre-Ramadan Campaign to Monitor Market Prices and Food Safety

Baghdad: National Security Service launched a comprehensive control campaign today in cooperation with the Commercial and Financial Control Department at the Ministry of Trade, the Health Control Division of the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Agriculture. The initiative is designed to align with the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the campaign’s primary objective is to monitor market prices and address any potential cases of manipulation or exploitation affecting citizens. Additionally, the campaign will scrutinize food items to ensure their safety and suitability for human consumption. The effort underscores the importance of maintaining market integrity and consumer protection as the nation approaches a significant religious observance.

The National Security Service has also introduced an awareness program as part of the campaign. This initiative aims to educate citizens about their rights and encourages them to report any instances of price manipulation. A dedicated hotline has been established for lodging complaints, enhancing the campaign’s reach and effectiveness.

The ongoing campaign is expected to last throughout the month of Ramadan, ensuring price stability and the availability of safe food supplies for citizens. This sustained effort reflects the authorities’ commitment to protecting consumers during a time of increased demand and market activity.

The statement from the National Security Service highlighted a prior success, noting that during February, the Service conducted specific duties across various governorates. This resulted in the seizure of 218 tons of expired food supplies deemed unfit for human consumption. These supplies were confiscated and destroyed as per formal seizure reports, reinforcing the Service’s dedication to maintaining the country’s food security.
