Baghdad: The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Iraqi people in celebration of Iraqi Women’s Day. In a message on behalf of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Al-Hassan highlighted the significant roles and sacrifices of Iraqi women throughout history.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Hassan commended the pivotal role of Iraqi women in defending rights, promoting social justice, and maintaining societal cohesion. He expressed gratitude for the serious support provided by the Iraqi government, which has initiated the National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women 2023-2030. This plan includes the formation of the Supreme Council for Women’s Affairs and the Supreme Committee for Political Support for Women, alongside various programs for women’s development across sectors.
Al-Hassan urged the Iraqi government and its people to preserve and build upon these achievements, emphasizing the importance of supporting women’s contributions to the stability, advancement, and prosperity of Iraq. He remarked, “Iraqi women were and still are an honorable model for women around the world, and we look forward to more participation in various sectors, within the lofty and noble message of women’s role contributing to the stability, advancement, prosperity, and development of Iraq.”
