Baghdad: A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred near the town of San Miguel Achiutla at a depth of 64 kilometers.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated in a post on Twitter that no damage had been reported, while local authorities in Oaxaca announced the activation of emergency protocols.

The earthquake triggered an earthquake alert in Mexico City, briefly forcing residents into the streets.
