Mosul: Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Aoun Diab Abdullah, affirmed that the water reserves available in the Mosul Dam Lake are the country’s main reserve for securing water for pumping stations, agricultural lands, and other uses during the summer. A statement from the ministry stated this during his visit to Nineveh Governorate to the Mosul Dam project. He was accompanied by the Ministry’s Technical Undersecretary, Eng. Hussein Abdul Amir Bakkah, the Director General of the General Authority for Dams and Reservoirs, Dr. Eng. Wissam Khalaf Obaid, and a number of experts and directors of departments in the governorate.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Minister added that the Mosul Dam is in a safe condition, with filling work ongoing, ensuring that the water supply is sufficient to optimally utilize it during critical conditions through modern irrigation methods. He noted that the Mosul Dam is fully prepared to store any incoming water to boost its water reserves, as the dam is one of the most important storage facilities for water resource management in the country.
On the sidelines of the visit, the Minister conducted a field tour of the Mosul Dam project to review water levels, water releases, filling work, and dam safety assessment procedures, which aim to secure the dam. He stated that periodic management and maintenance work is aimed at ensuring the safety of the Mosul Dam and ensuring its continued operation to provide water to all beneficiaries.
Minister Diab also held a meeting at the Mosul Dam Administration with the Technical Undersecretary, the Director General of the Authority, experts, and senior staff at the dam to discuss the most important challenges and find optimal solutions. Another meeting was held with the directors of the Ministry’s departments in Nineveh Governorate to review the procedures and plans followed to manage water resources and exploit them fairly. They also discussed procedures followed in the Al-Jazeera Irrigation Project and addressed the problems and challenges facing the work to ensure the continuity of work according to the plan set by specialists in the field of water resources management.
