Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met with a group of academics and members of professional and sectoral unions during his visit to Maysan Governorate. The meeting marked a significant engagement with local stakeholders as part of his wider interest in regional development.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani congratulated the attendees on Eid al-Fitr and emphasized his commitment to the service, industrial, and economic realities of Maysan Governorate. He discussed the importance of ongoing projects, including the expansion of the Maysan refinery. The expansion is anticipated to elevate the refinery’s capacity to the highest in the region, next to the Baiji refinery, enhancing imports and offering various petroleum products. This development is also expected to create job opportunities, reinforcing Maysan’s status as an industrial oil hub.

Al-Sudani highlighted the governorate’s potential entry into the petrochemical and fertilizer industries following the refinery’s expansion and the completion of the Maysan Investment Refinery. This initiative aligns with the government’s strategy for maximizing oil and gas resources. He expressed optimism about Maysan’s future in the oil and industrial sectors and mentioned forthcoming water complex projects across the districts.

During the meeting, Al-Sudani listened to the attendees’ concerns regarding the governorate’s current challenges. He assured them that all points raised would be addressed, with ministerial committees tasked with overseeing the outcomes of such visits to the governorates.
