Gaza City: The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has officially announced its acceptance of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange proposal mediated by Egypt and Qatar. This decision marks a significant step towards potentially ending the hostilities with Israel. The announcement follows indirect negotiations recently held in Doha.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas’s political bureau abroad, confirmed the acceptance of the proposal, stating, “We agreed to a proposal we received two days ago from the mediators in Egypt and Qatar, and we hope that the occupation will not obstruct it.” The proposal consists of two main components: a phased prisoner exchange over fifty days and a gradual ceasefire. This ceasefire is to be linked to a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. Additionally, the plan includes provisions for urgent humanitarian aid and broader negotiations on consolidating the ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal, reconstruction efforts, and post-war arrang
ements.

The acceptance of the proposal by Hamas comes amidst significant regional and international efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. However, an official response from Israel regarding the initiative has not yet been made public.
