Al-Kufa Residents Protest Against Investment Project Allocations

Al-Kufa: Dozens of residents of Kufa, the largest district administratively affiliated with Najaf, demonstrated in protest against the governorate and the National Investment Commission’s move to allocate land between Kufa and Al-Sahla Mosque, which has a heritage and recreational character, for investment. Participating in the protest were members of parliament from Najaf, Hadi Al-Salami and Tariq Al-Shamkhi.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the protesters raised banners demanding that archaeological sites in Kufa, such as Tell Al-Sabbagh, and service areas designated as sports and recreational fields and recreation areas for citizens, be prevented from being allocated for investment. Tell Al-Sabbagh is one of the archaeological sites previously surveyed by the Ministry of Heritage and Antiquities as archaeological excavation sites.
