Washington: The United States has implemented a substantial increase in tariffs on Chinese goods, raising them to 104%, as reported by Fox News. This move comes amidst ongoing trade tensions between the two economic giants.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the increase in tariffs was announced by an unnamed White House spokesperson, who indicated that the additional tariffs took effect at noon Eastern Time. The spokesperson noted that the decision was made due to China’s failure to lift its retaliatory measures against the United States.

The newly imposed tariffs are set to be enforced starting tomorrow, Wednesday. This development follows previous warnings by President Trump, who had threatened to impose a 50% increase on top of existing tariffs should Beijing not revoke its countermeasures.

In a related move, the Chinese State Council had announced last Saturday an additional 34% tariff on all goods imported from the United States. This increase is scheduled to take effect on April 10, as a direct response to the steps taken by US authorities.
