Baghdad: The Middle Oil Company announced today the restarting of a stopped well in the Ahdab field using horizontal lateral drilling technology.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Director General of the Middle Oil Company, Mohammed Yassin Hassan, stated that this initiative aligns with the directives of Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani, to develop the oil industry. The Middle Oil Company collaborated with the Chinese Oasis Company to successfully restart a stopped vertical oil well in the Ahdab field.

Hassan elaborated that the technical and administrative staff of the Middle Oil Company, alongside the Chinese Oasis Company, utilized horizontal lateral drilling technology to restart well (ADR3-3ST). This effort resulted in the extraction of significant quantities of crude oil with minimal amounts of associated water at the reservoir’s bottom.

The company’s General Manager commended the collaboration between the company’s staff and the Chinese Oasis Company in the successful restart of the well. He emphasized that this approach holds promise for reviving other stalled vertical wells by employing horizontal drilling technology, which allows for the re-pumping of oil from wells with varying levels of water. This method is expected to enhance production efficiency and reduce the operating costs related to treating the associated water.

Hassan highlighted the importance of continuing to adopt modern technologies in oil extraction to bolster production.
