Baghdad: The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, has emphasized the importance of holding parliamentary elections as scheduled, asserting that there is no justification for delaying them. Al-Maliki made these remarks during a central celebration organized by the Islamic Dawa Party to commemorate the martyrdom of Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr and his sister, Alawiya Bint al-Huda, in Baghdad.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Maliki highlighted the significant contributions of Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr, who was martyred by the Ba’ath Party. He noted that the current political system in Iraq is a result of the sacrifices made by al-Sadr and others who fought against dictatorship and tyranny. Al-Maliki underscored the importance of defending Iraq’s democratic process, stressing that loyalty to al-Sadr requires unwavering support for the new political regime.

Al-Maliki further stated that the legacy of Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr calls for religious responsibility and the protection of the people’s interests. He urged Islamic movements in Iraq to learn from al-Sadr’s teachings, identifying the Ba’ath Party as the primary adversary responsible for past tragedies in Iraq. He firmly declared that there should be no reconciliation with the Ba’athists and advised them against attempting to re-enter the political arena.
