US Envoy’s Visit to Russia Marks Progress Towards Ukraine Ceasefire

Washington: The White House Spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt confirmed that the visit of Steven Witkoff, the US special envoy, to Russia represents another step toward a ceasefire in Ukraine and ultimately reaching a peace agreement. She emphasized the significance of Witkoff’s direct contacts with the Russian presidency in progressing the negotiations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Levitt stated in a press briefing that Witkoff’s visit is a crucial part of the ongoing process aimed at negotiating a ceasefire and achieving a final peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The discussions are expected to play a vital role in the diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.

Dmitry Peskov, Spokesman for the Russian presidency, indicated that the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US envoy Steven Witkoff will take place in St. Petersburg and will be conducted behind closed doors. Peskov mentioned that the discussions are set to cover various aspects of the Ukrainian settlement, reflecting the complexities involved in the negotiations.

US President Donald Trump has described a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin last March as productive, noting that an immediate ceasefire targeting vital installations and infrastructure in both Ukraine and Russia was agreed upon during the call. This development adds to the ongoing efforts for a peaceful resolution.
