Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq’s full readiness to host the upcoming Arab Summit and provide the appropriate conditions for its success.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Hussein engaged in a phone conversation with Taher Al-Baour, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Libya. During their discussion, the ministers explored ways to enhance relations between Iraq and Libya, aiming to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. This effort is intended to benefit the two nations and strengthen joint Arab actions.

The statement highlighted the importance of reactivating the Iraqi-Libyan Joint Committee and updating the framework agreements between the two countries. These steps are deemed necessary to align with current changes and reinforce institutional cooperation. In terms of regional affairs, the ministers exchanged perspectives on the rapid developments in the region, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip. They reiterated their countries’ steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s rights, emphasizing the need to halt military escalations and protect civilians.

Additionally, the conversation covered ongoing preparations for the next Arab Summit in Baghdad, scheduled for May 2025. Minister Fuad Hussein reiterated Iraq’s commitment to hosting the summit and ensuring its success, expressing hope that the event would serve as a platform to foster Arab solidarity and regional understanding.

Taher Al-Baour expressed Libya’s appreciation for Iraq’s proactive role in supporting Arab issues and commended the efforts underway to prepare for the summit. He affirmed Libya’s support for the summit’s success and expressed confidence in Iraq’s capability to organize an event that strengthens Arab unity and fulfills the aspirations of the Arab peoples.
