Al-Hakim Calls Anfal Genocide a Horrific Chapter in Iraqi History

Baghdad: The head of the National Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, has described the Anfal genocide as one of the most horrific experiences of death and bitter destruction suffered by the Iraqi people during decades of dictatorial rule.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Hakim made these remarks on the thirty-seventh anniversary of the Anfal genocide, highlighting the severe impact it had on the Kurdish population. He stated that the Kurdish people endured various forms of torture, oppression, and displacement. Additionally, there were numerous mass graves, along with the confiscation of property and the destruction of expansive lands, orchards, and farms.

Furthermore, Al-Hakim emphasized the importance of remembering the victims of this tragedy, urging political leaders to honor the past injustices. He called for both material and moral compensation for the victims and their families, underscoring the need for acknowledgment and reparation within the political framework.
