Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged Pakistan and India to exercise restraint and work to de-escalate tensions between them.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Chinese newspaper, Global Times, reported that Wang had a phone call with his Pakistani counterpart, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, as China monitors developments between Pakistan and India, following an armed attack targeting civilians in the tourist resort of Pahalgam in Kashmir last Tuesday.

During the call, Dar briefed Wang on the latest developments regarding tensions between Pakistan and India, stressing that Pakistan is always resolute in combating terrorism and opposes actions that would escalate tensions.

Dar said that Pakistan remains committed to managing the situation through a mature approach and will maintain communication with China and the international community.

For his part, Wang said that China is closely monitoring developments, calling for cooperation between Pakistan and India and for an immediate impartial investigation into the armed attack.

The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed that combating terrorism is a shared responsibility of all countries, and that China consistently supports Pakistan's firm counterterrorism measures. Wang noted that the conflict does not serve the fundamental interests of India and Pakistan, nor regional peace and stability, expressing Beijing's hope that both sides will exercise restraint and work to de-escalate tensions.
