Ankara: The Turkish Presidency denied allegations by some opposition politicians regarding wiretapping of members of parliament in the country.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Presidency’s Center for Countering Disinformation stated in a statement on Thursday that the claim that members of parliament are being wiretapped and that everyone is under surveillance is not consistent with reality. Article 135 of the Criminal Procedure Code specifies that communications may only be intercepted by judicial order against persons under investigation or prosecution, and only within the framework of the crimes listed.

The Center added in its statement: “Decisions regarding the necessity of eavesdropping are referred to the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA), where they are reviewed. Any decisions to intercept communications that contravene procedures and the law are appealed.”

The Turkish Anti-Disinformation Center called on people not to believe unverified information and “not to rely on unfounded allegations.”
