Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani sponsored a significant signing ceremony today, marking a new era of energy cooperation and maintenance in Iraq. The event, held in the presence of the German Ambassador to Iraq, celebrated the agreement on principles of cooperation in the energy field and the signing of two critical maintenance contracts with Siemens Energy.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the energy cooperation agreement, entering its third phase, aims to boost Iraq’s national grid by an additional 14,000 megawatts. This enhancement is expected to significantly strengthen the country’s electricity system and improve energy services nationwide. The agreements also include maintenance contracts for the Dibs Gas and Musayyab Thermal power plants. The Dibs Gas Power Plant contract covers long-term maintenance for two generating units with a capacity of 340 megawatts. Meanwhile, the Musayib Thermal Power Plant contract ensures a five-year maintenance plan for 750 megawatt units, with an addition of 150 megawatts, thereby guaranteeing safe operation and development.

During discussions with Siemens CEO Christian Bruch, Prime Minister al-Sudani highlighted the importance of sustained cooperation between Iraq and Germany, emphasizing Siemens’ role as a crucial partner in the energy sector’s expansion. Al-Sudani underscored the Iraqi government’s commitment to prioritizing this sector and its collaboration with international companies, particularly Siemens, to enhance maintenance, production, distribution, and transmission capabilities.

Christian Bruch, representing Siemens, expressed the company’s keen interest in broadening its operations in Iraq. He assured continued support for the Ministry of Electricity through strategic projects and affirmed Siemens’ dedication to advancing the energy sector, especially following the ahead-of-schedule completion of maintenance on all power plant units this year.
